This course focuses on the principles and practice of computer networking, with emphasis on the Internet; the structure and components of computer networks, packet switching, layered architectures, TCP/IP, physical layer, error control, window flow control, local area networks (Ethernet, Token Ring; FDDI), network layer, congestion control, quality of service, multicast.

COURSE OBJECTIVE
The main objective of this course is to answer the basic question \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"how do computer networks and internet operate?\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\" in the broadest sense. The course will provide a comprehensive, self-contained tour through all of networking from the lowest levels of data transmission and wiring to the highest levels of application software. At each level, we will see how the facilities and services provided by lower levels are used and extended in the next level. Upon successful completion of this course, the student will have an understanding of:
